BHUBANESWAR: Employees of the four State-owned Akademis - Orissa Sahitya Akademi, Orissa Sangeet Natak Akademi, Orissa Lalit Kala Akademi and Orissa Urdu Akademi, have threatened to stop working for an indefinite period since November 11 protesting the alleged ad-hoc attitude of the State Government towards their genuine demands. Laxmikant Palit, spokesperson for the Akademi Employees’ Federation said that 44 employees of the four Akademis, which were established during the 1950s have been running from pillar to post for the past 16 years to see that their service conditions approved by former Chief Minister Biju Patnaik are yet to be implemented by successive governments. Meanwhile 20 employees have already retired waiting for the justice from their employer, he added. The employees serve the cultural community of the State that boasts of a rich culture. It is a shame that their legitimate dues are not being honoured by the Government, Palit pointed out. Meanwhile, the Orissa Karmachari Sangram Samiti has expressed solidarity with the federation .
