Hubli-Dharwad
Launch: High Court Judge Justice Subhash Adi inaugurating a State-level convention of advocates in Dharwad on Saturday. DHARWAD: High Court Judge Justice Subhash Adi has said that present-day laws have failed to ensure social security for the public. He was inaugurating a State-level convention of advocates organised by Adhivakta Parishat at Dr. Mallikarjun Mansur Kalabhavan here on Saturday. Mr. Justice Adi said there was a need to bring about amendments to the laws to ensure social security for the people as mentioned in the Constitution. Steps takenReferring to 9/11 and the steps taken by the U.S. Government to prevent terrorist activities in the country, Mr. Justice Adi said after 9/11 the steps taken were so stringent that there had been no similar incident after that. However, in India, the number of terror-related activities were on the rise. There was a need to introspect on why such steps could not be taken in India, he said. Security
He said there were soldiers to guard the country, but there was no security to protect people from the threat they faced from people within the country. Mr. Justice Adi appealed to advocates to not take up cases unnecessarily. If the problem could be solved without approaching the court, please do so, he said. Justice Arali Nagaraj, who referred to various cases and drew on his experiences as a judge, said that one should remember that courts were there for the benefit of the petitioners and not vice-versa. MLC Mohan Limbikai welcomed the gathering. National president of the parishat Parvata Raoji presided over the function. Advocate M.B. Naragund made the introductory remarks. Senior advocates from across the State participated in the one-day convention.
