HUBLI: Senior Deputy General Manager of South Western Railway Anurag has said vigilance cannot be a substitute for carrying out inspections and administrative checks. He was delivering the keynote address at a seminar on “Effects of corruption on administrative performance and remedies”, organised as part of Vigilance Awareness Week in Hubli on Friday. He said vigilance stepped in when the administrative machinery failed and many of the lapses detected through vigilance checks could be prevented if there was effective supervision. He also said that preventive vigilance would play an effective role and called on the staff and officers to fight corruption together. Mr. Anurag said corruption if left unchecked could cast a devastating impact on the administration and economic base of the organisation. Presiding over the function, Additional Divisional Railway Manager of Hubli Division, Prem Chand said there was a need for effective supervision at all levels. “The officers and employees should change their mindset towards public service,” he said. Students of the Railway English Medium High School presented a skit on checking corruption. Divisional Railway Manager Adesh Sharma delivered a talk on checking corruption. Senior Divisional Personnel Officer of Hubli Division Timothy T. Gonmei proposed a vote of thanks. As part of the awareness week the Hubli Division conducted an essay competition for schoolchildren. Mr. Anurag gave away the prizes to the winners on the occasion.
