BJP ticket for Koshiary

Staff Correspondent

DEHRA DUN: The political crisis in Uttarakhand seems to have been averted with the high command of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party deciding to give the ticket for the Rajya Sabha election due later this month to former Chief Minister Bhagat Singh Koshiary.

The seat, held at present by Congress leader Harish Rawat, falls vacant later month on November 26.

Twenty-four out of 36 BJP MLAs led by Mr. Koshiary had rushed to Delhi recently seeking a change in the State leadership alleging that Chief Minister B. C. Khanduri was not easily accessible. Mr. Koshiary had expressed the desire to continue in State politics.

The Congress is yet to decide its candidate. “We are not in a position to put up a candidate for even Zila Panchayat chairmanship in Dehra Dun, what to talk of Rajya Sabha!” said a senior Congressman here.
