G.V. Raja tournament: committee formed
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Organising Committee for the G.V. Raja Memorial all-India football tournament — to be held either in April or May 2009 — has been formed, with Kerala Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan as chief patron.
This was decided at the meeting chaired by Kerala Sports Minister, M. Vijayakumar, and attended by the Kerala State Sports Council President, T.P. Dasan and DFA officials.
The organisers are looking at possibility of six to eight teams from the State and eight to 10 teams from outside. It was also decided to send invitations to 30 teams including those playing in the I-league.
The tournament was last held in 1984 and ended in tragedy when the temporary gallery collapsed 45 minutes before the kick off of the final.
