Study conducted

on forests in

two districts


Sirsi: Nagaraj Hampole, Conservator of Forests, Canara Circle, on Friday stressed the need for marketing of non-timber forest produce with value addition.

He was speaking at a workshop on “Non-Timber Forest Produce – Policy” organised by Prukruti of Sirsi and RCDC of Orissa. He said minor forest produce should be collected in a scientific way. One-year holiday for harvesting cinnamon in Canara Forest Circle had been declared for 2008. Hemanth Bahagro from RCDC said RCDC had conducted a study on the forests in Uttar Kannada and Chamarajnagar districts and submitted a report.
