Medical teachers in a dilemma

Staff Reporter

BERHAMPUR: The Orissa Medical Teachers’ Association (OMTA) was undecided till Friday evening whether to be part of cease work and resignation drive launched by the members of the Orissa Medical Services Association or not. The OMTA comprises teaching staff of three government medical colleges in the State.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday evening, OMTA State president P.K. Raut said they have moral support for the agitation of the OMSA. “But we are keeping close watch on the developments between the State government and OMSA to decide our future course of action,” he said. He, however, added that the medical college teachers had not yet taken any decision to refrain from duty in support of agitation of OMSA members.

Mr. Raut said one of their colleagues at Burla Medical college, who was expelled from his job by government needed reinstatement. The junior doctors of MKCG Medical College also expressed their solidarity with doctors. President of the Junior Doctors’ Association (JDA) Bikram Mohapatra said they were ready to take up the path of agitation if needed to get the demands of OMSA fulfilled. The press conference was also attended by the State secretary of OMSA, Sachidanada Mohanty, and leaders of Berhampur unit of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), K.K. Panigrahy and Sarat Mohanty.
