PANCHKULA: Nicky Boje stole the show with his pyrotechnics as Hyderabad Heroes thrashed Mumbai Champs by 79 runs in the Indian Cricket League (ICL) at the Tau Devi Lal Sports Complex here on Thursday. With this win, the Heroes gathered 10 points from seven matches to book a berth in the semifinals. The Champs, on the other hand, played its quota of eight matches, managing only two points to lie at the bottom of the table. After electing to bat first, the Heroes initially stumbled in its bid to garner some quick runs and lost four wickets for only 72 on the board. However, South African Boje and Stuart Binny combined well to add 92 runs for the fifth wicket, and set up a platform for a huge total. Boje hammered the Champs bowlers to score 88 runs from 49 balls, laced with eight fours and five sixes. Binny matched Boje’s skills, hitting a 26-ball 51 studded with five boundaries and three sixes. The Heroes reached a mammoth score of 214 for six, which is the highest total of the tournament so far and the second highest in the history of the ICL. Michael Kasprowicz and Johan van der Wath claimed two wickets each. The Champs batsmen, under pressure of chasing a huge target, messed up the whole plot and managed only 135 for six. Except stand-in skipper Dheeraj Jadhav, the Champs’s batters displayed a miserable performance. Left-arm spinner I.S. Reddy accounted for three Champs batsmen. The scores: Hyderabad Heroes 214 for six in 20 overs (N. Boje 88, S. Binny 51) bt Mumbai Champs 135 for six in 20 overs (D. Jadhav 43).
