One arrested for assaulting wireman
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI: One person was taken into custody for allegedly assaulting a wireman attached to the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) here on Thursday.
Police said a few field staff members were attending to a repair by switching off power supply in Chindadripet on Wednesday.
A handful of locals picked up a quarrel over frequent power cuts with the staff that led to a heated argument. In the melee that followed, wireman Suresh Babu (34) was allegedly assaulted.
A large number of people gathered in the local police station accusing prolonged power disconnection following the incident. The police arrested I. Pandal (45) in connection with the incident. Normal power supply has been restored in the area.
