Honest gesture appreciated

CHENNAI: An autorickshaw driver who handed over a suitcase left behind by a passenger in the vehicle to the owner was rewarded by the city police on Thursday. The suitcase contained 15 sovereigns of gold jewellery besides other valuables.

Police said P.Sameem (40) of Puducherry had lodged a complaint with the Sembium police that he had missed his suitcase in an autorickshaw at about 8.30 p.m. on November 1.

Hours later, the autorickshaw driver, A. Vijay Kumar (30) handed over the baggage to the police.

Commissioner of Police, R. Sekar, appreciated his honesty and presented a cash award.
