CHANDIGARH: Haryana will be a power surplus state in 2011 and it will be self-sufficient in 2010 as at least one power-generating project will be commissioned every year for four years consecutively, Haryana Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala said on Thursday. He was speaking after inaugurating the Boiler Drum Lifting event of second unit of 600 MW capacity of Rajiv Gandhi Thermal Power Project at Khedar in Hisar district. He said that the construction work of the 1,200 (2X600) MW Rajiv Gandhi Thermal Power Project was moving fast towards completion on schedule. The first unit of this Rs.4,338 crore project would be commissioned in December 2009 and the second in March 2010. He added that the State Government was pursuing the setting up of a Nuclear Power Plant at village Kumharia in district Fatehabad as it had been identified by the Nuclear Power Corporation of India. This major plant would be of 2,800 MW capacity comprising four units of 700 MW. Construction workHaryana Power Generation Corporation Managing Director Sanjeev Kaushal gave a presentation on the progress of construction work of the thermal project.
