CHENNAI: Canon India, a complete digital imaging company, could increase its sales sharply by 38 per cent in 2007 against 18 per cent growth in the previous 10 years. The company expects to close the current calendar year by achieving a growth of 35-38 per cent despite recession in the economy. The focus on research and development and the introduction of a range of products helped the company to achieve this level of growth, according to Kensaku Konishi, President & CEO. Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, Mr. Konishi said the company was spending eight per cent of its revenues in research and development every year. The company introduced more than 100 products this year against 80 new products in 2007. The company introduced a range of printers here and also announced the launch of ‘Namma Chennai’, a city specific campaign to reach out to the regional markets and garner greater market share. According to Alok Bharadwaj, Senior Vice President, this campaign would focus on consumer systems products division with IT peripheral products range.
