MYSORE: Members from the Global AIDS Monitoring and Evaluation Team of World Health Organisation (WHO) on Tuesday visited the Anti-Retroviral Treatment Centre on the premises of Krishnarajendra Hospital here. The five-member team collected details on the functioning of the centre and the number of HIV/AIDS patients being treated. Nodal Officer of the centre Vasudev Nayak, who accompanied the team, told The Hindu that the delegation appreciated the functioning of the centre. “Before arriving here, the delegation visited the centre in Bangalore to examine whether funds released for ART are being utilised properly and ART drugs provided to people living with HIV/AIDS,” he said. DrugsDr. Nayak said ART drugs were important for people living with HIV/AIDS and timely consumption of drugs without any break was important. At present, 1,654 patients are being provided ART drugs, while the number of registered HIV positive persons is 6,278. The ART centre in the city was inaugurated in April 2004. Geetha Avadhani, Superintendent of K.R. Hospital, and Rajan of the Mysore Medical College and Research Centre were present.
