RAC official commits suicide

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: A 45-year-old Assistant Commandant of Rajasthan Armed Constabulary allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with a service pistol at Chanakyapuri here on Tuesday. He was posted with the 12th battalion of RAC.

Mahender Singh of Bharatpur was found dead on a chair with the pistol in his right hand in the afternoon when the police broke open the door of his room at the battalion camp. A suicide note found in the room said he had failed to perform his duty towards his family and was thus putting an end to his life. The note said no one was to be blamed for his death.

“He reached the battalion camp around noon and asked for his service pistol. A little later, he retired to his room saying that he was not feeling well. When he did not come out for a long time, a constable peeped through the window and saw him lying slumped on the chair with blood oozing from his temple. Senior officers were alerted and the police were called in,” said Deputy Commandant Shashikant Joshi.

Commandant Janardhan Sharma said: “He fired a single shot. It appears to be a case of suicide. The police are investigating the matter.”
