IN CONTROL: Shikhar Dhawan, in the company of Aakash Chopra, gave a sound start to Delhi’s innings against Punjab. Chennai: Defending champion Delhi replied strongly to Punjab’s 391 with openers Aakash Chopra (67 batting) and Shikhar Dhawan (64 batting) putting on an unbeaten 142 runs on the second day of the Ranji Trophy super league match in Delhi. Earlier, valuable contributions from Uday Kaul (95) and Ankur Kakkar (56) took the Punjab total close to 400. Left-arm paceman Predeep Sangwan scalped four for Delhi. Karnataka rallied through a fighting 64 from Manish Pandey to stretch its first innings total to 365 against Railways in a super league clash in Bangalore. For the visiting side, left-arm spinner Murali Kartik claimed five for 83. The host, then, had Railways reeling at 110 for four at stumps with off-spinner C. Raghu picking up two wickets. The experienced Sanjay Bangar was batting on 53. Maharashtra replied well, the second-wicket pair of Rohan Bhosle (42 batting) and Ameya Shrikande (64 batting) taking the score to 154 for one at stumps. Meanwhile, Gujarat paceman Siddharth Trivedi’s four-wicket burst reduced Saurashtra to eight for four at Rajkot. Earlier, Bhavik Thakkar (192), Sunny Patel (90) and Timil Patel (104 n.o.) shone in Gujarat’s total of 581 for six declared. Mumbai in commandMumbai took an overall lead of 133 runs with eight second-innings wickets in hand to end the second day at a commanding position at the CCI in Mumbai. Mumbai bundled out Rajasthan for 204 in 70.4 overs with medium-pacer Dhaval Kulkarni and off-spinner Ramesh Powar scalping five wickets each.
