Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Congress on Tuesday renominated 11 members of the recently dissolved Assembly in Jammu and Kashmir for the polls.

It decided to field Sheikh Mohammed Ashfaq in Ganderbal against Srinagar MP Omar Abdullah of the National Conference.

Mr. Abdullah lost the 2002 Assembly polls from Ganderbal to Qazi Mohammed Afzal of the People’s Democratic Party.

The second list of the Congress contains 31 names for constituencies going to the polls between the second and the fifth phases in November and December this year.

Among those renominated is Abdul Rashid (Sopore), who won the 2002 polls. He was associated with the former J&K Congress chief, Ghulam Rasool Kar, who too was an aspirant from this constituency. Kanta Andotra (Basohli), wife of Udhampur MP, Lal Singh, has also been renominated.

Those who lost the previous election yet nominated are Taj Mohiuddin (Uri); Jugal Kishore (Reasi); Prem Sagar (Bani); Girdhari Lal (Hiranagar-reserved); Ramesh Chander (Nowshera); Abdul Gani Vakil (Rafiabad); Surinder Singh (Tral); Mohammed Anwar Bhat (Pampore); and Krishan Chander Bhagat (Chanani-reserved).
