Bids for distribution of colour TVs opened

FINALISING THE SELECTION: The bids for supply of colour televisions for free distribution being opened at the Secretariat in Chennai in the presence of Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi on Tuesday.

CHENNAI: The government has decided to invite P.G. International, the firm that has quoted the lowest rate for supply of colour televisions, for a discussion on the final price on November 5.

A government release stated that when the bids of 17 firms were opened, the one submitted by PG international was the lowest.

Based on the discussions, the others who had submitted their bids would be called for discussions, the 14th meeting of the representatives of legislative parties set up by the government to monitor the colour TV scheme, decided. Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi was present when the bids were opened.

Earlier, 19 firms had participated in the pre-qualification stage.

Two of them were rejected on October 15, as they did not fulfil the listed conditions. The remaining firms qualified to participate in the price bid for the supply of televisions.
