Women held for conning man

Special Correspondent

TAMBARAM: The Chromepet police have arrested two women who tricked and robbed a 43-year-old man of jewellery, a mobile phone and cash a few days ago. Their accomplice, an autorickshaw driver, has already been arrested.

Navaneethakrishnan, a Malaysian citizen, had come to his house in Peerkankaranai near Tambaram on a vacation . On Friday, he took an autorickshaw to Tambaram.

Two women in the vehicle tricked him and later, threatened him before robbing valuables.

They returned to his house to rob more cash but fled in the autorickshaw.

The same evening, the autorickshaw driver, Chelliah, was arrested and on Sunday evening, the Chromepet police arrested the two women, Valli of Pallavaram and Jothi of Manavalan Nagar, Tiruvallur district.

The women have a history of involvement in crime cases, including tricking men waiting near bus stops, taking them in an autorickshaw and robbing them. Valli was arrested for her involvement in a similar crime in Tambaram police limits three years ago.

In this particular case, she had chalked out the plan and connived with the two others, police said.

The autorickshaw driver, who received Rs.500 from the women, was fully aware that his vehicle was being used for carrying out a crime and hence he too was arrested.
