‘Response to test launch quite encouraging’

VISAKHAPATNAM: Powerjunction, an Exide outlet for selling its industrial batteries – the first in the State – was opened here on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, executive vice-president of Exide Industries Subir Chakraborty said the company was manufacturing industrial batteries for use in inverters, uninterrupted power supply systems for computers and for other electronic equipment.

“The response to test-launching of SF industrial range of batteries is quite encouraging in many markets. We are confident of a very good response in the local market as the city and its suburbs are growing at a fast pace,” he said. He said Powerjunction outlet here was set up by the franchisee PAE Ltd.

Mr. Chakraborty said the market size for inverter batteries was of the order of Rs. 1500 crores per annum and Exide Industries had over 50 per cent share. The annual market growth rate is 20 to 25 per cent. The batteries are being manufactured at Haldia and Syamnagar in West Bengal and at Hosur in Tamil Nadu. He said the three plants were undergoing expansion to meet growing demand. Another outlet would be opened in Chennai. Samir Roy, president of PAE Ltd, Babu Naidu, area manager of Exide, and others spoke.
