HYDERABAD: A woman software engineer from Hyderabad was found murdered in Redmond city of Washington State in the United States, her family members said here on Tuesday. Arpana B. Jinaga (25) was found with a deep slash on her throat. She had gone to the U.S. four years ago after completing engineering course in Vignana Jyothi Insitute of Technology in Bachupally.

Arpana’s body was found by a family friend in Valley View Apartment of Redmond after her father asked him to go and check her apartment as she had not called home for the last two days.

The family friend found the doors broken and her body lying near the bed with several bleeding wounds, apparently inflicted with sharp-edged weapons.

“Our friend called up in the early hours stating she was murdered,” said Arpana’s father B.C. Jinaga, who works as the Director of School of Information Technology in Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University. The distraught family members who plan to fly to the U.S. are waiting for some confirmation from the authorities there on completion of investigation formalities, so that her body could be brought home.

Quoting the Redmond police, the U.S. media reported that Arpana’s body was taken to King County Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy. They are speaking to her friends and co-workers to ascertain when she was last seen alive. Arpana, a VJIT gold medallist, completed her M.S. in Embedded Systems from a U.S. University in New Jersey. Later, she took up her first job in EMC Corporation and was recently even promoted.

She was to come home in December. The latest killing comes close on the heels of a series of murders of NRIs from Andhra Pradesh.

A PG medical student, A. Srinivas, Ph. D students Chandrasekhar Reddy Komma and Kiran Kumar Allam, were killed last year, while Soumya Reddy and her cousin Vikram Reddy were killed September last.
