Filter bed for supply of drinking water from Ali Sagar inaugurated 30 acres to be earmarked for Government Medical College near old khilla NIZAMABAD: The State ranks second in respect of getting funds for urban development in the country next only to Maharashtra, according to Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development Koneru Ranga Rao. The government has allocated Rs.3 crore to every municipal corporation, Rs.2 crore to each major municipal council and one crore to other municipal towns for development of infrastructure and other facilities, he said while attending a series of official programmes in the town on Tuesday. The Minister along with the Pradesh Congress Committee president D. Srinivas inaugurated a filter bed built at a cost of Rs.2.36 crore for the supply of drinking water from Ali Sagar and opened two overhead tanks built at a cost of Rs.56 lakhs and Rs.34 lakhs at Malapally and Chandrasekhar Colony respectively. Mr. Ranga Rao later laid the foundation to Municipal Corporation building to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs.3.28 crore. Water connectionHe said water tap connection was being released to all the white ration card holders as soon as they paid Rs.1,200 in municipal towns. The facility was already provided to 80,000 people, he said. The PCC president D. Srinivas said the underground drainage works undertaken with an outlay of Rs.85 crore was in progress. Godavari water was being given to the residents spending Rs.46 crores, he said. He said as promised by Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, the Government Medical College and a 500-bed hospital were sanctioned and foundation would be laid to them in December. For the construction of hospital 30 acre land near old khilla area would be earmarked soon, he said. Presiding over the meeting the Mayor D. Sanjay urged the Municipal Minister to sanction Rs.2 crore for various developmental works. Deputy Mayor Mir Mazaz Ali and Joint Collector Neetu Prasad spoke.
