HAMPI: Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa said that a committee, headed by G. Janardhan Reddy, Minister for Tourism, will be constituted to celebrate the 500th year of coronation of Sri Krishnadevaraya, the powerful emperor of Vijayanagar, in a befitting manner at Hampi in 2009.

Mr. Yeddyurappa said the coronation ceremony of Sri Krishnadevaraya was held in 1509 and completes 500 years in 2009. During his rule, he expanded his empire and the empire’s glory reached its pinnacle. To commemorate the achievements, the 500th anniversary of his coronation would be celebrated next year, he said.

Mr. Yeddyurappa said the committee, in which prominent historians, experts and descendents of Vijayanagar empire would be involved, would chalk out plans as to how the celebrations should be held and fix the date.
