‘Opposition not invited for utsav’

Staff Correspondent

Prakash: BJP has made it political function

Congress-JD(S) tie-up will be decided by high command, he says

He cautions party colleagues against commenting on the issue in public

Chitradurga: “It is customary to invite the leaders of all parties for events such as the Hampi Utsav, which showcases the culture and history of the State. But the BJP government has failed to show this basic courtesy by not inviting the leaders of Opposition”, said the former Minister and Congress leader M.P. Prakash here on Tuesday.

Mr. Prakash criticised the B.S. Yeddyurappa government for not inviting the leaders of the Opposition for the grand function. He said that the BJP was making such functions look like political functions rather than public functions.

He also criticised the Government for transferring 6,000 police personnel in a span of two months. This kind of mass and ad hoc transfers would make an adverse impact on the morale of police who would not be able to discharge their duties property, he added.

On the Government’s decision to take an all-party delegation to New Delhi to pressurise the Union Government for making an amendment of Article 371 of the Constitution for the development of Hyderabad-Karnataka region, Mr. Prakash alleged the Government was politicising the issue. Fielding a question on tie-up between the Congress party and the Janata Dal (Secular), he said the final decision would be taken by the party high command. He however had a word of advice for the party colleagues. He said that views on the issue should be shared with other members in private and no party leader should pass statements in public.

Mr. Prakash referred to the JD (S) and the Congress MLAs who had resigned to join the BJP during the press meet. He described the move of the MLAs as an insult to the public mandate. He said that though their decision was technically correct it was ethically wrong.
