dated November 5, 1958: Tapping new resources

Mr. V. Ramiah, Minister for Electricity, replying on November 4 to the three-day discussion on the Madras State Electricity Board budget in the Legislative Assembly, assured the House that the Government were fully aware of the necessity to generate more power to meet the increasing demand and said that with that object in view, they were examining how it could be achieved by tapping more resources in the State as well as by obtaining available surplus from neighbouring States. The Minister emphasised the interest of the Government in the well-being of the electricity workers and said that a decision on the report of the negotiating committee which was now under examination, would be taken as expeditiously as possible. He expressed the hope that all the villages in the State would be electrified by 1962-63.
