Ideas like using cameras effectively to keep tab on suspicious characters moving in and around banks -especially near parking lots-, downloading photos of members of attention diversion gangs from police database and displaying them at the banks were discussed at length during the meeting.

Mr. Rao said most of the thefts by distracting attention of customers near banks were being committed by gangs hailing from Ramjinagar of Tamil Nadu.

“There could be offenders from other States as well. We’re working on the clues,” he said replying to a question.

Brigadier (retired), Saincher, Chief Security Officer to Andhra Bank, explained that the RBI had already issued security guidelines and all banks in the State would have surveillance cameras soon.
