Adopt resolution for ceasefire: VCK

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Viduthalai Chiruthaikal Katchi (VCK) leader Thol Thirumavalavan has called upon Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi and leaders of other parties to adopt a resolution in the Assembly demanding a ceasefire in Sri Lanka.

In a statement here on Monday, he said the Indian government had not taken any initiative to stop the war despite the unanimous support articulated by Tamil Nadu for a ceasefire. “Since the Assembly is meeting on November 10, a resolution seeking ceasefire could be adopted,” he added.

He said that by according classical language status to Telugu and Kannada, the Centre had belittled the status given to Tamil.
