Rosaiah urges rice millers to cooperate
Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD: Finance Minister K. Rosaiah on Monday urged the rice millers of twin cities to cooperate with the government in its effort to control the price rise, by selling superfine quality rice at Rs.20 per kilogram. At the inauguration of a retail rice counter by Poojitha Parboiled Rice Mill in Kothapet, the Minister ascribed the scarcity of superfine quality rice to the rising demand. “Sona Masuri is cultivated only in four to five districts, while the demand is from all sections of the society,” he said, and informed that the government was planning to stop exports to other States from next year. He said efforts were on to control the prices of pulses, oil and vegetables too, through a special committee and that already the prices of a few vegetables had stabilised.
