TN and Kerala post comfortable wins

KOCHI: Tamil Nadu and host Kerala opened their campaign with comfortable wins in the eighth all-India BSNL basketball tournament which began at the Rajiv Gandhi indoor stadium here on Monday.

Tamil Nadu crushed Mumbai’s MTNL 79-22 while Kerala defeated Maharashtra 52-16 in the league games. Former international Mohammed Iqbal inaugurated the tournament.

The results (league): Group A: Kerala 52 (Rahul Krishna 10) bt Maharashtra 16; Andhra Pradesh 55 (A.E. Madhusudhanan 33, J. Chandrasekhar 12) bt Gujarat 20 (G. L. Jadeja 10).

Group B: Tamil Nadu 79 (Sunder Vadivel 13, R. Delhi Raj 15, G. Ravikumar 10) bt MTNL, Mumbai 22 (G. S. Ghag 14); Punjab 19 (Praveen Kumar Sareen 13) bt Madhya Pradesh 14.

Group C: Orissa 61 (Sasikanth Mohanty 19, Saroj Kumar Behra 13, Asok Kumar Naik 13, Kameshwara Rao 11) bt West Bengal 45 (Ravikanth Pandey 17, Manoj Mahanto 11).

Group D: Karnataka 61 (P. Naresh 12, Yaseen Peeran Peerzade 11, Sayed Ajmal Mujahid 10) bt Bihar 19. — Principal Correspondent
