Sea Tiger bases bombed

B. Muralidhar Reddy

COLOMBO: Sri Lanka’s Air Force on Monday claimed to have launched “precision air strikes targeting two key LTTE Sea Tiger bases” located on the Vettalaikerni coast in the north.

Spokesperson Janaka Nanayakkara said in the first strike, a Sea Tiger base located in Kadaikadu area, west of Vettaliakerni, was bombed. “The targeted terrorist base went up in flames,” he said. The second raid was at a base located 1.5 km west of Vettalaikerni. Separately, the Defence Ministry said the Army introduced a new offensive fighting element, Army Task Force-3, on Monday against the LTTE in Wanni.

“With the new induction, the terrorist are now engaged in a new battlefront towards east of the Jaffna-Kandy (A-9) Road,” it said.

“Army 59 division troops operating in Mullathivu further pushed forward towards the Kumalamunai-Thannimurippukulam Road during Sunday’s operations. Troops attacked two bunkers located in the Andankulam and captured them,” it said.
