Asian meet on medicinal plants begins in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: The four-day Asian symposium on ‘Medicinal plants, spices and other natural products’ began at the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT) here on Monday, with calls by experts for greater collaboration between nations to take forward the knowledge of natural products.
More than 500 scientists from 23 countries are attending the meet with the theme ‘natural products in drug discovery’. Geoffrey A. Cordell, professor, Department of Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmacognosy, University of Illinois (US), and A. V. Rama Rao, former IICT Director, were among those who addressed the inaugural session. The symposium is being organised by IICT with the support of CSIR, Indian National Commission for Unesco and International Foundation for Science. J.S. Yadav, IICT Director, and Barry Noller, Chairman, International Advisory Committee, spoke.
