Naidu dismisses Vundavalli’s charge

Congress MP seeks probe into land deals of TDP chief’s kin

HYDERABAD: Congress MP Vundavalli Arun Kumar has urged Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy to order a wide-ranging inquiry into “dubious land transactions” in areas surrounding the city, as some of the lands were sold to big and influential people.

He specifically referred at a press conference here on Monday to certain land transactions involving close associates and relatives of TDP president and the then Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu between 2000 and 2004 in which the owners had no say in the deal.

He said the family members of one Ranveer had complained to him that fake documents of their lands at Madinaguda, near Kondapur, were created by others and sold to powerful people. Among those who purchased 10 acres of land were close kin of Mr. Naidu, he alleged.

Mr. Arun Kumar said he had obtained photocopies of the documents of the transaction under the RTI Act. These showed that the registration relating to the 10 acres was “defective” as they carried no thumb impressions of the original land owner.

Later, Mr. Naidu rubbished the charge and dared the government to order an inquiry and take action as Mr. Arun Kumar’s party was ruling the State.

“Who is preventing them from ordering inquiry or even taking over the land? Already, the government has ordered 23 inquiries against me and this will be the twenty fourth.”

He said he had responded to the allegation in the Assembly. “But they want to rake it up again as they found nothing in the 23 inquiries.” In contrast, Commission of Inquiry headed by former IAS officer Natarajan as well as the House Committee of the Assembly, had found irregularities in barytes mining leased to the Chief Minister’s family in the past.
