Man arrested in cheating case

CHENNAI: The Thiruninravur police on Saturday arrested a man on charges of cheating over 250 persons by promising them jobs and collecting money towards that. Police suspect that he collected up to Rs.3 crore. Police sources said Bala Kumaresan (32) of Subramanyapuram, Arumuganeri in Tuticorin district, was arrested following a postal petition sent to Chennai Suburban Police Commissioner S.R. Jangid by one David of Nerkundram. The complainant had accused Bala Kumaresan of cheating him of Rs.50,000 after promising a job. Police investigations revealed that the accused had formed an educational trust and collected Rs.20,000 to Rs.50,000 from more than 250 people after promising them government teacher postings. Police suspect he had cheated many in other parts of the State and had swindled close to Rs.3 crore in cash. Thiruninravur police team apprehended Bala Kumaresan on Saturday at the Thiruninravur railway station while he was attempting to flee, police said. He was produced in court and remanded to custody.
