Recession a passing phase: NALCO Director

Staff Reporter

BERHAMPUR: Despite global recession there would be no threat to the personnel employed by the Navratna public sector company NALCO, said Director, Personnel and Administration, Joy Varghese.

Speaking to newsmen during his visit to Berhampur university to attend a seminar conducted by the department of Industrial Relations and Personnel Management (IRPM) on Saturday, he said the NALCO may on the contrary generate employment next year as it was headed for major expansion.

He felt the global recession was a passing phase and the adept work force in India should not get disheartened by it.

Intrinsic strategy

He cited the example of Jet Airways reinducting the employees it had retrenched and said the job market would surely have some impact of global recession but it would be for a short period.

According to Mr Varghese NALCO would always try to generate maximum employment as it realised the value of human capital.

He hinted that his company had come up with some intrinsic strategy to reduce the impact of global recession on the performance and work force of the company.

Speaking to the budding personnel managers of the department and its alumni, Mr Varghese advised them to keep pace with the changing trends of personnel management.

The IRPM alumni association had collaborated for this seminar. It was also attended by retired professor of Kaktiya University, G.S.Reddy, post graduate council chairman of Berhampur University, R.C.Panigrahy and several veteran academicians of personnel management. A souvenir of the department was also inaugurated.
