VIJAYAWADA: The bridegroom Srinivas barely could take his eyes off his pretty bride Nargis Begum who smiled ceaselessly, probably at the happy thought of their union in wedlock as a logical conclusion of their five-year long relationship. Srinivas and Nargis Begum were among the 31 pairs of couples assembled at the Tirupati Tirumala Devasthanam’s (TTD) kalyana mandapam at Punnamithota on Sunday morning to be united in wedlock as part of the fourth phase of Kalyanamastu. “We met in an institute imparting computer classes. Love blossomed and we decided to get married at the opportune time,” says Srinivas, working in a cell phone servicing company. While his bride listened carefully to the set of instructions given by the TTD staff to the couples, Srinivas explained how a platform like Kalyanamastu turned out to be a boon for couples like them. “Though our parents have agreed for this marriage, we chose this platform for more than one reason. First, it is a public affair where marriage certificates are given by none other than the TTD itself and the fact that the taali (the sacred thread tied by the bridegroom) comes straight from the feet of Lord Venkateswara of Tirumala.” The couples seemed overwhelmed by the divine aura that surrounded the place. The brides were draped in white saris with red borders while their grooms sported white kurt as teamed with white dhotis.
