Sandeep rallies to down Suyash

CHENNAI: Another comfortable day for the seeds at the ongoing National junior squash championship was imparted colour by a couple of closely contested matches in the lower age categories on Saturday.

Sandeep Ramachandran of Lady Andal School here overturned a two-game deficit to topple Rajasthan’s Suyash Sharma in the under-13 boys’ section. The seventh standard student rallied from a seemingly hopeless situation — down 7-11, 9-11 — to even things out by winning the third and fourth games comfortably.

The fifth game progressed squarely for either player before Suyash let loose a flurry of winners to go 10-6 up and within a point of closing out the match. But the topsy-turvy encounter caught another unlikely undercurrent as Sandeep played four perfect points to equalise and then put it across his opponent in the tie-break.

Robin stuns Sandeep

The lone upset of the day came in the boys’ under-11 section when Delhi’s Robin Mann beat second seed Sandeep Paswan in four games.
