NEW DELHI: Defending champions in the Indian section, Ram Singh Yadav and Kavita Raut, will back in action when the Airtel Delhi half marathon is flagged off on November 9. Yadav will be challenged, among others, by Surendra Kumar Singh, the national record holder in the 10,000 metres, Shivdan Singh and K. C. Ramu. Kavita will have a much tougher task than last year with Preeja Sreedharan, who has had an outstanding season on the track, joining the fray. Preeja had earlier won the Chennai half marathon and should be the favourite here, too. Veteran Leelamma Alphonso is also in the field. The top prize for Indian finishers, in both men and women’s sections, will be 4,000 dollars. Prizes will be on offer till the 10th place. — Special Correspondent
