Saina enters final; Guru Sai bows out

Pune: Top seed Saina Nehwal stormed into the final of the girls’ singles event of the World junior badminton championship, even as compatriot Guru Sai Dutt crashed out in the semifinals of the boys’ category here on Saturday.

Saina had no problems in quelling the challenge of third seed Shixian Wang of China 22-20, 21-12. She will face ninth seed Sayaka Sato in the summit clash on Sunday.

Fifth seed Guru Sai Dutt went down fighting against the third-seeded Zhengming Wang of China 16-21, 21-17, 17-21 in a thrilling encounter that lasted 47 minutes. — PTI
