India, Nepal review security, border management

New Delhi: In the first Home Secretary-level meeting between the two sides since the formation of Maoist-led government in Kathmandu, India and Nepal wrapped up two days of talks Saturday on issues ranging from security to border management.

The Indian side was led by Madhukar Gupta and the Nepali side by Gobinda Prasad Kusum.

The discussions on security related issues centered around effective cooperation in combating terrorist activities including activities of insurgent groups, circulation of fake currency notes, and institutionalising the mechanism for real-time exchange of security- related information between the two countries. The Indian side also raised the issue of security of Indian aircraft, a joint press release issued after the talks said.

The Nepal side conveyed its solidarity with India in the fight against terrorist and insurgent groups and also placed on record its condemnation of the recent bomb blasts in Assam as also its condolences for those bereaved and affected.

Speaking to journalists later, Mr. Gupta said he had been assured by his Nepali counterpart that the Himalayan republic would do all it could to prevent the use of its territory by elements hostile to India.
