NDMC files petition against tariff order

53 MW taken away from its share

NEW DELHI: The Appellate Tribunal for Electricity will hear on Monday a petition filed by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) seeking reprieve from the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission’s tariff order capping its power requirement.

Dissatisfied with the DERC orders, the NDMC had filed the petition against the decision to take away 53 MW from its share of unallocated power from the Central quota. “The NDMC Act says that the civic body has to buy power from wherever the Central government allots it. The civic body is therefore eligible to stake claim to the 53 MW that has been allotted by the Central government but taken away by the State government and given to power distribution company BRPL,” said sources.

The NDMC was forced to file the petition before the Appellate Tribunal after the DERC refused to allocate 350 MW of power to the NDMC.

It said the Council could meet its demand with 297 MW and allowed the remaining 53 MW to be allocated to BRPL by the Delhi government. After the government and the DERC rejected the NDMC demand for re-allotting the 53 MW of power to it, the Council is now banking on the tribunal to help it get an assured supply of 350 MW from three sources instead of one.

“The NDMC used to get power from the Badarpur thermal plant, but after the recent outage at the plant the Council said it should be provided the quantum from two other sources,” sources said.
