Stir against assault on medical officer

PERAMBALUR: Doctors of the Perambalur Government Headquarters Hospital and medical officers of the Health Department resorted to a picketing agitation in front of the GH here on Saturday demanding the arrest of an accused who had allegedly assaulted a Block Medical Officer at R.M.K.V. Nagar on Friday.

The block medical officer K. Ramesh was allegedly assaulted by a resident Muthiah and a few others after the doctor advised him to prevent stagnation of water in front of his house during an inspection. While the police arrested 10 persons in connection with the incident, the main accused Muthiah was said to be absconding.

Protesting the attack and demanding the arrest of Muthiah, the doctors resorted to the agitation on Saturday. They disbursed after the DRO P. Shankar assured them that the accused will be arrested.
