KRISHNAGIRI: Works on the Hogenakkal Drinking Water Project will go as per schedule and the scheme will be extended to Hosur in the second phase, said Local Administration Minister M.K. Stalin here on Saturday.

Mr. Stalin distributed pass books with credit entries of Rs. 50,000 as loan and Rs. 10,000 in the revolving fund to the tune of Rs. 18 crore to 3,000 self-help groups.

Inaugurating the Local Bodies Day celebrations, Mr. Stalin listed the schemes being implemented in the State for the welfare of women.

He said Indian Bank was the first among the public sector banks to give loans to SHGs in Thali.

Later, speaking at a function in Dharmapuri, Mr. Stalin alleged that some political parties “in our neighbouring State” are politicising the Hogenakkal project for personal gains. “But I do not want to politicise the issue.” The main motto of the DMK Government is to bring the scheme to Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts.

The Minister handed over pass books with a credit entry of Rs. 20 crore as revolving fund to 3,333 women self-help groups.

He also inaugurated 83 new schemes worth Rs. 11.33 crore and laid foundation for 31 schemes worth Rs. 11.92 crore including Periyar Samathuvapuram in Paruvadhanapalli panchayat in Pennagaram block at Rs. 1.50 crore.

He also laid the foundation for Harur and Marandahalli Town Panchayats’ drinking water project at Rs. 3.24 crore.

Mr. Stalin said that Indian Bank had proposed to open an exclusive branch for the self-help groups in Dharmapuri by November 15.
