Dashed hopes: Shoukat with his damaged autorickshaw

KOZHIKODE: He is the national champion in arms wrestling. But the chances of V.T. Shoukat making it to the World Championships — to be held at Kelowna in Canada from November 29 to December 7 – appear remote.

Shoukat stood first in 60 kilogram weight category in the arms wrestling national championship held at Chhattisgarh recently. He has qualified for the world championships, but funds now pose a problem. He needs at least Rs.1.85 lakh to participate in the championship. The only hope is sponsorship. Misfortune too has been tailing the champ, who hails from Kinasseri in Ponkunnam. His only means of livelihood, a goods autorickshaw, met with an accident and he needs to cough up Rs.50,000 to repair it.

Those willing to help this national champion can contact him on 9895343738.
