Anna claims title
WINNING SMILES: Anna University, winner of the South Zone badminton championship at Shimoga recently.
CHENNAI: Anna University men’s team won the South Zone inter-University badminton championship, organised by Kuvempu University (Shimoga) recently for the first time.
Anna defeated JNTU (Hyderabad) 3-1 in the final, beat Calicut 3-1 in the semifinals and S.V. University (Tirupati) 3-0 in the last-eight clash.
The team members were R. Vijay Anandh, Aditya Elango, Aloysius Vijay Anthony Raj, M.R. Manikandan, M. Elshin Joel, S. Subikshan Valabhan, S. Mohamed Irfan. P. Chandrasekar was the manager.
T. Maran was the coach.
Dr. P. Mannar Jawahar, Vice-Chancellor, Anna University, felicitated the team in the presence of Dr. K. Karunakaran, Chairman and Dr. J.P. Sukumar, Director of Physical Education, Anna University.
