Nadal, Federer pull out

PARIS: Top-ranked tennis player Rafael Nadal retired after losing the first set 6-1 against Nikolay Davydenko in the Paris Masters quarterfinals on Friday, just hours after Roger Federer pulled out of the tournament with a back injury.

The results: At Paris (Paris Masters): Quarterfinals: Nikolay Davydenko bt Rafael Nadal 6-1 (retd.); James Blake w/o Roger Federer; David Nalbandian bt Andy Murray 7-6(3), 6-3. Third round: Nikolay Davydenko bt Tomas Berdych 6-1, 6-1; Rafael Nadal bt Gael Monfils 6-3, 6-2; Roger Federer bt Marin Cilic 6-3, 6-4.
