Notices to CII, Ministry of Defence

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Friday issued notices to the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) and the Ministry of Defence on a petition challenging rejection of a request by the petitioner to participate in the AERO-India show to be held at Air Force station in Bangalore next February.

Justice G S Sistani of the Court directed the respondents to file replies to the petition by December 1.

The petitioner, A.B. Mahapatra, editor of defence magazine “The Strategic Affairs”, alleged that he was denied permission to participate in the show because he had written an editorial in his magazine critical of the last year’s show.

Fundamental Right

Counsel for the petitioner argued that the denial of permission amounted to infringement of the Fundamental Right to freedom of speech and expression of his client guaranteed under Article 19 of Constitution of India.

The AERO- India show is scheduled to be held in February next year.
