District Sports Council elections held

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The elections to the District Sports Councils across the State were conducted on Friday after a gap of eight years. This was for the first time that elections to these bodies were being conducted after the Kerala Sports Act 2000 was enacted by the State Assembly.

However, the counting of votes in Kozhikode and Kasaragod were with-held according to a directive of the Kerala High Court. Significantly, the Kerala State Sports Council president, T. P. Dasan, is in the fray in Kozhikode, seeking election as the DSC nominee to the KSSC.

Each of the DSCs elected a president, a vice-president a nominee to the KSSC and a six-member executive committee. According to the provisions of the Act, the secretary of the concerned DSC is to be appointed by the Government in consultation with the KSSC.

The following are the key office-bearers of the various DSCs:

Thiruvananthapuram: President: D. Mohanan; Vice-President: A.M.K. Nizar; KSSC nominee: Karamana Hari. Kollam: President: Sivaramakrishna Pillai; Vice- President & KSSC nominee: X. Earnest. Pathanamthitta: President: K.I. Kochueapen Mappilai; Vice- President: Salim P. Chacko; KSSC nominee: G. Bipin.

Alappuzha: President & KSSC nominee: Saji Cherian; Vice-President: P.J. Joseph. Kottayam: President: Aiymannam Babu; Vice-President: John Cherian; KSSC nominee: P.T. Sainuddin. Ernakulam: President: V.A. Zakir Hussain; Vice-President: P. Bhaskaran; KSSC nominee: Mathew Paul.

Idukki: President: K.L. Joseph; Vice-President: T.C. Mathew; KSSC nominee: Sarath U. Nair. Thrissur: President: Igny Mathew; Vice-President: Babu M. Pallusseri, MLA; KSSC nominee: T.A. Jose. Palakkad: President: T.R. Ajayan; Vice-President: Subash Chandra Bose; KSSC nominee: T.N. Kandamuthan.
