PARIS: Roger Federer pulled out of the Paris Masters on Friday due to a back injury. The Swiss second seed had been due to play James Blake in the quarterfinals. “Due to a stiff back, I have decided to pull out of my match against James Blake tonight,” Federer said on his website. Meanwhile, David Nalbandian of Argentina reached the semifinals defeating Andy Murray of Britain 7-6(3), 6-3. Nalbandian can squeeze into the season-ending Masters Finals in Shanghai should he win the tournament on Sunday. The defeat put to an end Murray’s hopes of becoming the first man in tennis history to win three successive Masters Series tournaments after his victories in Cincinnati and Madrid. Wozniak in last eightIn Quebec City, fifth-seeded Aleksandra Wozniak delighted home fans with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over U.S. qualifier Carly Gullickson on Thursday to reach the quarterfinals of the WTA Bell Challenge.
