Birsamunda Vidyapith is champion

GURGAON: Two goals each by Joseph Toppo and Saroj Ekka drove Birsa Munda Vidyapith (Rourkela) to a 5-0 victory over BGSUS Senior Secondary Schoool (Khadoor Sahib, Amritsar) in the final of the ONGC 26th Nehru sub-junior hockey tournament at the Nehru Stadium here on Friday.

David Minz was the other scorer for the Orissa team that led 3-0 at the interval.

The champion team collected Rs. 96,000 and the loser was presented Rs. 64,000.

In the match for the third place, Government High School (Harnamdasspura, Jalandhar) recorded a thrilling 4-3 victory in extra-time against Army Boys Sports Company (BRC, Danapur).

Sukhmanjeet Singh scored the match-winner for the Jalandhar team in the 81st minute. Mandeep Singh, Harpreet Singh and Akashdeep Singh were the other scorers for the winner that had trailed 1-2 at halftime.

Junas Herenz, Niyaran Mundu and Suila Bhengra scored for the Danapur team.
