CHENNAI: Over 400 participants from 19 states, with Tamil Nadu accounting for 123 players, will feature in the National sub-junior and junior squash championship to be held at the ICL academy here from October 31 to November 8. In the first phase, individual events will be gone through in 10 categories in the boys and girls sections — Under-11, 13, 15, 17 & 19 years. From November 3 the team events in the inter-State championships will be gone through — boys and girls under-15 and 19. The top junior players — boys’ U-19 — include Vikram Malhotra and Aditya Jagtap, both from Maharashtra. These two along with the top two seeds in the U-17 category — Ravi Dixt and Ramit Tandon — were part of the Indian team that finished fourth at the World junior championships in Switzerland earlier this year. In the girls’ U-19 category Dipika Pallikal and V. Anwesha Reddy both from Tamil Nadu have been seeded one and two. In the U-15 section, upcoming Mahesh Mangaonkar from Maharashtra (Asia number two) and Anaka Alankamony (Asia number one) are the top seeds in boys’ and girls’ categories respectively. On the last occasion, Tamil Nadu won three out of the four team titles. “With squash bringing results at the international level, the ICL academy should throng with supporters for the nationals,” said Srivatsan Subramanian, who takes over as Secretary General of SRFI from N. Ramachandran after the latter’s election as President of the World Squash Federation recently. The seedings: Boys: U-11: 1. P.K. Roshan (TN), 2. Sandeep Paswan (Mah). U-13: 1. Kush Kumar (Del), 2.
