Special Correspondent

Outlet in city inaugurated

Thiruvananthapuram: Minister for Housing Benoy Viswom said here on Wednesday that the Kalavara scheme launched by the Kerala State Nirmithi Kendra to provide construction materials at affordable rates to the common man would be extended to all parts of the S.

Speaking after inaugurating the Thiruvananthapuram outlet of Kalavara at the Regional Nirmithi Kendra, Vattiyoorkavu, he said KESNIK would provide materials to BPL families at zero profit for construction of houses up to 600 sq. ft.

“A marginal profit of 10 per cent will be taken for construction of houses measuring 600 to 2,000 sq.ft. This profit will provide the funds to take the initiative forward,” he said.

The Minister said the illegally mined sand seized by Revenue officials would be distributed to BPL families building houses.

Mayor C. Jayan Babu who presided over the function said Kalavara would be of great help to the beneficiaries of housing schemes taken up by the City Corporation.
